Access by road
280 km southeast of Kathmandu-Valley, 70 km of southern Terai-planes. Part of 8 village community Khiji phalate VDC, overall population approx. 15’200 persons of different ethnic groups. Climate/weather:
Monsoon rain June-Sept.; mostly dry warm weather in spring and autumn, dry and cool temperatures in winter;

Agriculture and cattle farming; Trekkingroutes to Okhaldunga, Solu and Ramechap

Recent Activities:
In 2008, festivities organized at Pokoli village, north of Okhaldunga to show cultural life of different ethnics in the area and to promote region for touristic activties. The program was opened by the former prime minister Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda). Some tourists participated with this program. They were trekkers from Great Britain, UK. Dendi Sherpa and Nawang Sherpa was leading the groups as professional trekking guide. Conditions of education and healthcare of the region were introduced by Mr. Sherpa and other participants. They emphasized needs of improvement in health-services and education. With this motivation, Yorkshire Yak Health Community Organization was started. as registered non government organization (NGO). Registration no: 620/2008. With financial funds, raised up to now, land was purchased and contraction work for healthpost buildings started at the village Khiji-5 Chuplung, Okhaldunga.

Aims of the project
There are no governmental medical services for the villages to reach in appropriate times and distance. Therefore it is necessary to organize basic health awareness programms and services for Khiji communies at grassroute levels. Most villages are not directly accessible by any means of transportation. Either small diseases could become dangerous and complicated.

Status of the project
Real estate has been purchased of 1 and ½ Ropani (7776sq feet). Treatment-building in brickstone ( 6 rooms, 1152 sq.feet) is in construction, but not completed yet. 2 more houses for medical staff and families in care of bedridden patients are planned.

Next steps are:
Purchase of cement, stone and paints; Flooring, colouring and furnishing walls, floor; Completion of windows and doors. 2 toilets and 1 bathroom to be build; Wall compound of stone to be build; Purchase of office furniture’s, labour and transportation charges, Procurement and implementation of solarpowered photovoltatic system.

Lab equipment; 1 ECG machine set; 1 X-ray machineset; 1 video X-ray machine set
